(Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。浙江人才臣与陕西人燕赤霞邂逅于金华一古庙。夜深，一女子携金元宝忽至才臣床边要与其同床共枕，才臣驱走女子并扔出所留金元宝。次日，后东厢兰陵书生主仆二人莫名暴毙。原来此女叫聂小倩，是一位早年夭亡的少女，尸骨埋于庙旁，夜间以夜叉面目出现，并以色相和金钱引诱生人而食。小倩不忍加害才臣，嘱咐才臣与燕生同眠避祸，日后将其尸骨挖出归葬。燕赤霞乃一炼剑侠士，在夜里他施术击伤一破窗而入的鬼物。才臣不负小倩之托将其尸骨带回重葬，前脚到家，小倩不期而至，母亲对这个来路不明的少女心生疑惑。。
